Jenny wrote: “I had a fabulous time yesterday at my Mulberry Tree Woodturning day. Andy proved to be a great instructor, guiding us through the use of machinery and tools and explaining about various aspects of his work. It was so much fun taking a chunk of wood and, by our own efforts, watching it turn into a lovely object as its hidden pattern emerges. I certainly plan to repeat the experience. Thanks for a great day!”
Diane wrote: “Fulfilled a long-held ambition to try wood turning, with a day’s instruction at the Mulberry Tree Wood Turnery. With Andy’s expert and patient instruction I exceeded all my expectations and was able to turn a bowl and platter, both of which I just love. The perfect place to learn.”
No experience is required, so why not try something different.
Based at Porchfield Business Park, Newtown, The Mulberry Tree Woodturnery was started in March 2013 by wood turner Andy Fortune. Andy had been a hobby wood turner since 1995 and finally realised his dream to start his own wood turning business with the help and support of his wife, Nikki. Andy has many years of experience and specialises in making bowls, platters and hollow forms from locally sourced timber from the Isle of Wight. He processes the timber for his own use and also supplies wood turning blanks and chestnut finishes for customers through his shop He sells his own unique hand crafted turnery through shops and galleries, takes commissions, and sells direct to the public at the Mulberry Tree Woodturnery gallery. His beginners and intermediate bowl turning courses have proved to be very popular and every participant has left with a broad knowledge of bowl turning and spindle turning techniques and the confidence to continue this fascinating craft on their own.
